Junior team photos come with a different set of challenges to senior sport — shorter attention spans, nerves in front of a camera, and a wider range of ages within the same squad. A little preparation goes a long way.
Before the day
Let players know in advance that photos are happening — a quick reminder from a coach or team manager the week before, plus a note home about kit and grooming, avoids a scramble on the day itself.
Managing nerves
Some younger players get self-conscious in front of a camera. A relaxed, encouraging tone from coaches and parents on the day helps far more than instructions to “smile properly” — genuine expressions photograph better than forced ones.
Keeping the group organised
For team shots, having a coach or manager help arrange players by height or position speeds things up considerably and reduces the number of takes needed to get everyone looking at the camera at once.
What clubs can do
Communicate the schedule clearly to team managers, who are usually best placed to relay it to parents. A junior squad that knows roughly when they’re needed, and for how long, makes for a calmer, faster session.
